The company GEOMODEL – 3D MODELLING STUDIO LDA, beneficiary of the Ports 4.0 grant, has carried out the final demonstration of its project “CLEVER VOLUME” in the facilities of the Port of Barcelona. The test was attended by the Head of Innovation and the Head of Monitoring of Innovation Projects of Puertos del Estado, the project managers from GEOMODEL, together with those responsible for the Port Authority of Barcelona.
CLEVER VOLUME consists of a volumetric measurement system based on LiDAR technology for the control of MARPOL V waste. Its SaaS solution allows the volumetric calculation of solid waste in trucks after unloading from cruise ships and other vessels. Throughout the project, the prototype has evolved with improvements to the scanning device in weight, size and ease of installation. The system has also found a new use case in ro-ro terminals for the automatic verification of vehicle loads and out-of-format cargoes, demonstrating its commercial potential in optimizing port operations.
