The company BECSA, S.A., responsible for the MACHSENSE project, subsidized by the Ports 4.0 Fund of Puertos del Estado, has carried out the final demonstration of the system at the facilities of the Port of Castellón and at the headquarters of the company itself. The event was attended by representatives of Puertos del Estado, the Port Authority of Castellón, the Port Authority of Bilbao and the technical team of BECSA and Tecnalia.
The MACHSENSE project, which has been developed in the ports of Castellón and Bilbao, aims to develop an autonomous system for real-time monitoring and control of diffuse emissions generated by the handling of bulk solids, focusing particularly on PM10 particles. The solution combines physical sensors installed in the emission zones, which include meteorological parameters, with virtual sensors based on Machine Learning techniques located in the immission or impact zones. All this is integrated into a digital platform that allows estimating the impacts produced by these emissions in other areas of the environment, especially in urban areas.
This innovative system contributes to operational decision-making, reducing costs associated with high-resolution monitoring networks and facilitating the implementation of predictive techniques. Thanks to its ability to anticipate impacts up to 24 hours in advance, port authorities can optimize the planning of their operations, minimizing environmental risks without affecting the activity.
After the presentation of the characteristics and particularities of the project, a practical demonstration of the MACHSENSE solution was carried out. During the session, the operation of the digital platform and the network of devices installed in the Port of Castellón was tested, showing how the developed technology allows estimating particle concentrations both in real time and predictively.
The solution developed reinforces the sustainability of port operations and responds to the increasingly demanding environmental commitments of the sector, offering a tool that makes it possible to anticipate impacts and guarantee responsible management aligned with the strictest standards.
